The mural submissions have officially closed. Thank you for your beautiful entries!

Deadline: December 31, 2022 | 5pm PST

The Latinx Arts Project/Carpinteria,  inspired by Dolores Huerta and her call to action: “Every moment is an organizing opportunity, every person a potential activist, every minute a chance to change the world,” invites Santa Barbara and Ventura County artists to get out their sketch pads and paints!

The Latinx Arts Project/Carpinteria invites artists to submit their artistic vision for a Latinx-inspired mural for Carpinteria. We are looking for entries that address one or more aspects of our theme “Past, Present and Future” (Pasado/Presente/Futuro). The mural design should depict Latinx contributions in Carpinteria, California, including the history of the “Mexican Only” segregated Aliso Elementary School that ended in 1947.  For more information and visual cues on this, the group will provide access to artists to our 15-minute documentary “Voces de Old Town Carpinteria”  produced by filmmaker Brent Winebrenner this year.

The selected artist, or artist group, will receive a $2,500 design honorarium. A  stipend and a materials budget to paint the mural will be announced at a later date. Support for painting the mural will be provided by private donations and project partners.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 31, 2022, 5:00 PM PST.
